Renault UCH recovery after battery power loss.
The battery went flat, was disconnected or the car was jump-started, and now your Renault won't recognise its key card, won't start, or the locking and lights have gone strange. It may be the UCH.
We recover supported Renault UCH modules after battery power-loss faults.
Symptoms owners describe
Usually right after a flat battery, a battery change or a jump-start.
- Key card not detectedThe car doesn't recognise the card or key it used yesterday.
- Won't start or crankNothing happens when you press start or turn the key.
- Immobiliser lightThe immobiliser warning stays on or keeps flashing.
- Locking stopped workingCentral locking or the remote does nothing.
- Odd electrical behaviourLights, wipers or windows act strangely or not at all.
- New dash warningsMessages that weren't there before the battery went flat.
Why a flat battery can do this
The UCH stores configuration and key data. A power loss at the wrong moment, or a voltage spike from a jump-start, can leave it in a faulty or locked state.
From the outside, it looks like a failed module. Often it isn't. On supported UCH modules, the unit can be recovered and put back into service.
Recovery before replacement
A replacement UCH has to be sourced, programmed, coded and matched to your keys and engine ECU. Recovering the one you have, where it's supported, is often the simpler fix. We diagnose first and tell you which route your car needs.
What to do
Check the battery
Make sure it's properly charged or replaced. A weak battery causes similar symptoms.
Phone us
The model, year and VIN, and what happened just before the fault.
Diagnose
We confirm it's the UCH, not the battery, the wiring or the key card.
Recover and test
The UCH is recovered, key cards re-matched where needed, and everything tested.
Which Renaults use a UCH?
Renault has used a UCH on many models, including generations of the Clio, Mégane, Scénic, Kangoo, Modus and Laguna. We do UCH renewal and dongle alignment on all of them. Have the model and year ready when you call, so we know which UCH is fitted.
Code · Program · Adapt · Recover
Dealer-level work, without the trip to the dealer.
We've invested in professional Abrites Full Protocol and TOPDON Phoenix Max diagnostic and programming technology. It lets us carry out advanced electronic procedures on supported VAG, BMW, MINI, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Renault and Nissan vehicles, here in Mountain View.
Services are subject to vehicle model, year, control-module type, software version and system compatibility. Phone with the make, model, year and VIN and we'll confirm before you bring the car in.
Questions we get asked
Is my UCH broken, or just in a faulty state?
That's what diagnosis tells us. After a power-loss event, a UCH that looks dead can often be recovered. If it's genuinely failed, we can program and match a replacement where supported.
Can I fix it by disconnecting the battery again?
It's not a reliable fix. If the UCH has lost its configuration or locked itself, it takes diagnostic equipment to restore it.
Will my existing key cards still work?
Usually they're re-matched as part of the recovery. If a card is lost or faulty, we can program a replacement where supported. See key services.
Can you renew a UCH, or align the dongle?
Yes. We do UCH renewal and dongle alignment on the Clio, Mégane, Scénic, Kangoo, Modus and Laguna.
The car won't start. How do I get it to you?
We don't do call-outs, so it will need to be towed or transported to the workshop. Phone first so we can confirm the job before you arrange it.
Another workshop? Send us the programming job.
If you don't have the equipment to finish a coding, programming or key job, we can do that part for you and hand the car back.
Renault dead after a flat battery? Call us.
Phone with the make, model, year and VIN and we'll confirm whether it's a job we can do before you bring the car in.
